CSI Recruiting is working with an E&P company located in Houston (just north of downtown) on their need for a potential Reservoir Engineering Manager.

The ideal Reservoir Engineering Manager candidate would have a total career experience level in the 10-15 year career range. The position will report directly to the Vice President of Engineering. This is a growth role – not a back-fill, but the result of increased activity at the company. This is a fast-paced entrepreneurial style environment so the client would prefer a candidate who has worked in a similar style company.

For the Reservoir Engineering Manager role, our client is seeking an innovative and results-driven Reservoir Engineering professional specializing in the following:

  • Experience in running a multi-rig development program along with directing well spacing/completion optimization.
  • A development focused reservoir engineer who can implement and complete a project
  • Someone who can lead the conversation and is assertive
  • Experience leading large development program is required

You will oversee an ongoing five-year multi-rig development plan with consideration to the following items:

  • Acreage delineation
  • Well spacing optimization
  • Completion optimization
  • Pipeline and plant capacities
  • Offset operations
  • Coordinate with functional teams to ensure Geoprogs, conservation orders, permits, and locations are ready well before the rig moves

Emphasis on thorough planning in order to minimize last minute changes
Strong background with type curve generation is required

Experience with well level economics and decision/risk tree analysis is required


Working knowledge of multivariate analysis is ideal

Unconventional gas experience is highly desired (Permian, East Texas, Austin Chalk, maybe Fayetteville Shale) They plan on adding multiple rigs later this year so the company is clearly in growth mode.

Client needs this person to employ sound decision-making methods to complex projects, including economic analysis.


  • Mentor and help develop less experienced Reservoir Engineers by providing guidance
  • Demonstrate ability to solve complex problems.
  • Evaluate and monitor well performances
  • Generate production well forecasts
  • Work closely with other departments
  • Must have strong knowledge of economic evaluation and financial metrics.
  • Improve efficiency in data analysis

Experience/Qualifications: Extensive exposure to unconventional resources, ideally having worked in multiple resource plays

Minimum education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required – Petroleum Engineering is preferred
  • Well versed in economic modelling software (ARIES or similar)
  • Experience utilizing information from multiple public data sources

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering
  • A minimum of 9 years of working as a reservoir engineer for an independent E&P company
  • This ideal candidate will have a minimum of 9 years and a maximum of 15 years total career experience.
  • The client is not interested in candidates with primarily service company or consulting background
  • A strong background in ARIES

The client would prefer a local Houston candidate but would relocate the right person.
