Exploration Manager – Conventional Assets, Dallas, TX

CSI Recruiting is working with an active E&P firm headquartered in the Dallas area in need of an experienced Exploration Manager, with a focus on prospect generation and oil finding within carbonates and sandstones.  This role will combine ‘old school’ geology with the newest in seismic data, mapping software and drilling / development technology, all to discover and develop oil from conventional reservoirs.

An ideal candidate will be skilled in working with foreland basins, finding oil within thrust belts and applying structural geology principals to exploration efforts.  You’ll work hand-in-hand with engineering, management, investors and consultants to be strategic in your search for new prospects, looking ahead to the next potential target.

The position will involve personnel management, overseeing the work of a small team of 4-6 geoscientists and technicians, in addition to managing the work of geophysical consultants and seismic providers.  The ability to review and critique the work of others will be key in maximizing the benefit of those team members.

In working with senior management, you’ll be responsible for giving presentations to investors, both current and prospective, explaining the company’s exploration strategy and forward-looking goals.  Strong communications skills, oral and written, will be essential to the success of this hire.

Candidates should have the following:

  • 15+ years of experience in petroleum geology with a focus on on-shore conventional oil prospect generation and oil finding
  • 10+ years of on-shore structural geology experience within an active E&P environment.  Ideally candidates will have experience working with foreland basins.
  • 5+ years of personnel management – Experience reviewing and critiquing the work of direct reports, including senior geologists, staff geologists and geotechs.
  • Strong Petra skills, exposure to Kingdom is preferred as is a base-level understanding of seismic data.
  • Strong communications skills.  Experience giving presentations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Anticipate at least 8 more years of full-time employment
  • Ability to live and work in the Dallas area
  • Ability to travel as necessary
