Facilities Manager – California Oil Assets

CSI Recruiting is working with a growing, financially sound E&P firm based in California, assisting in their search for a Facilities Manager to live and work in Central California.  The role will report to the company’s COO and work hand-in-hand with the VP of Operations, the Manager of Development and the company’s engineering staff.  Viable candidates should be currently (or recently) working as a Facilities Engineer or Facilities Manager for an E&P company.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design wellhead facilities, gathering systems, compression stations, disposal facilities and other required surface facilities for onshore California oil & gas assets.  This includes oil, water and gas processing facilities as well as steam, water and gas floods.
  • Manage projects to support wellhead facilities, gathering systems and other required surface facilities to support the company’s operations.
  • Work with field personnel to identify optimization projects that would serve to increase production or decrease operating expenses.
  • Follow through with identified projects to its logical end, such as economics, scheduling, design, vendor negotiations, vendor selection and overall project management.
  • Monitor compliance of all terms and obligations in any construction, operating, processing and gathering agreements
  • Provide coordination and serve as liaison between asset teams, operations, materials management, legal, production accounting, accounting and marketing to insure proper project management and implementation.
  • Track actual project costs and monitor expenditures for all AFE’s and report any variances.
  • Lead projects to scope, engineer and design well pad facilities (single and multi-well), dehydration units, gas compressions systems, fluid transport systems, etc.
  • Support efforts to develop and maintain a process safety culture through leading HAZOP/HAZID studies, developing cause and effect analysis to support facilities and leading management of change process.
  • Develop project cost estimates, project budgets, long term plans, and forecasts as necessary with necessary supporting data including development scenarios, schedules, etc.
  • Size vessels, pumps, compressors, pipes, valves as well as a good understanding of the functionality and operation of this equipment.
  • When actively drilling, use the drilling and development schedule to set priorities for work and continually stay ahead of the rigs in order to get new wells to sales.

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in oil and gas required; onshore experience STRONGLY preferred.  The focus of this experience should be in Facilities Engineering, particularly the most recent 5 years of work experience.  
  • 5+ years as a Facilities Engineer working in-house at an upstream oil & gas company / E&P firm / Operator.
  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical, chemical, petroleum or related engineering degree.
  • Understand process piping standards and specifications, materials selection and metallurgical requirements.
  • Ability to identify midstream opportunities as they arise in E&P operations (compressor and equipment downsizing, consolidation of gathering pipelines, etc.).
  • Understand LOE and capital budgeting process and impacts on cash flow.
  • Collaborative approach to problem solving, strong communications skills (oral and written) and strong industry reputation, technically and ethically.
