CSI Recruiting is working with a Dallas-based oil & gas company, comprised of a management team that has successfully managed E&P companies for decades.  They have their key team members in place except for one area – LAND.  The company needs a Senior-Level Landman to be the company’s Land Manager.

Our client is seeking to hire a key Petroleum Land Management person, someone who can innovate and create land processes or improve those that exist.  The position will require an entrepreneurial mindset and a drive to create.  Prior experience creating a land department from scratch is not necessary, but a desire to develop processes, procedures, protocol and infrastructure is essential.

Regionally speaking, the company is focused in Texas and Oklahoma, with a possibility of assets in Louisiana as well.  Experience in Texas is essential, Oklahoma would be a plus.

The position requires energy and ambition to grow the company’s asset base and development programs. Requires strong leadership, creativity and strive for continuous improvement. Track record in successful acquisition and subsequent development of new ventures is required. Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside leadership to set corporate land strategy
  • Provide leadership in all land related matters from leasing, acquisitions to development and divestitures
  • Manage land resources to achieve set goals, plans and allocates resources and work
  • Integrate into the multi-disciplinary team:
    • Evaluate opportunities
    • Clear title, conduct due diligence and summarize risks for acquisitions/trades
    • Order title opinions and lease takeoffs, supervise analysis and title curative measures
    • Provide execution team with land support critical to optimal development of assets
    • Interpret and negotiate various contracts (farmouts, leases, PSAs, pooling, SUAs, ROWs and more)
  • Understand the legal and regulatory framework of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and New Mexico
    • Advise team on the impacts and implications of various contracts, provisions and types of properties in evaluation, due diligence and operations
  • Standardize land processes and procedures for efficient workflows, document and own the workflows
    • Establish and manage land records management system
  • Review and modify company contract forms as needed
  • Exhibit creativity, strive for process improvement and ingenuity
  • Keep up with latest technologies and techniques in the industry with relation to land management and services

Key attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of industry experience, including in-house land work
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Experience asset growth and development
  • Horizontal development track record
  • Fully versed in modern data management and interpretation techniques and technology
  • Expertise in GIS software such as ArcGIS; Tobin or equivalent
  • Ability to work in a high-paced environment with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong presentation skills, ability to “tell the story” in a clear and concise manner
