Tax Accountant – Oil & Gas, Fort Worth, Texas – POSITION FILLED AS OF 8/15!

CSI Recruiting is working with a privately-held, successful and growing oil & gas company based in Fort Worth, Texas, in their search for a Tax Accountant to add to their small accounting and finance team.

This Tax Accountant role is a growth position, created to work directly under the company’s Tax Manager.  The job is focused on federal and state tax preparation and filings and will be responsible for maintaining company tax schedules.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Maintain real-time company tax schedules so they are readily available to management for analysis
  • Designated liaison between company and external accounting firms so as to provide streamlined communication and flow of company documents to and from external firms
  • Prepare “provided by client” tax work papers to send to external accounting firm
  • Assist with preparation of federal, state and indirect taxes for multiple parent entities
  • Assist with preparation of Texas deferred tax liabilities for financial statements
  • Maintain book and tax basis to improve periodic reasonableness test for review against accounting firms’ workpapers
  • Improve recordkeeping, tax schedules and organization of tax department in order to reduce accounting engagement fees
  • Maintain partner capital accounts so as to improve partner allocations at estimate
  • Research and keep abreast of potential tax law changes as they occur, especially as a result of the new administration
  • Model potential tax law changes to determine potential impact to company • Assist with maintaining W9s for vendors and reporting 1099s
  • Assist with oil and gas production taxes and ad valorem taxes

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Accounting degrees are required
  • Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) license is required
  • 3 to 5 years of public accounting experience focused on oil and gas partnerships is required
  • Public accounting experience in corporate tax in the oil and gas industry in addition to oil and gas partnership experience is beneficial
  • Demonstrated knowledge of oil and gas tax accounting, operations and terminology
  • Experience performing federal and state partnership tax compliance and income tax provision work
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to accurately perform work with close attention to detail and prioritize work so it is completed in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with multi-disciplinary team including internal accountants, management team, and external accounting firms
  • Must be able to multi-task, be self-motivated, reliable, dependable, and agile
  • Must possess a positive attitude and be highly effective in a team environment
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to perform in-depth analysis with many different types of data
  • Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
