CSI Recruiting is currently seeking candidate for a Vice President of Finance role, working within an established and growing Oil & Gas company in Denver, Colorado.   This exploration & production (E&P) firm has significant existing production within the U.S., and is continually adding newly acquired assets.  The company is seeking a senior-level corporate finance and accounting resource to oversee the company’s in-house accounting functions and direct the day-to-day financial activities.  This role will report directly to the CEO of the company.

The working environment at this company is young, high energy and very collaborative.   The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial style mindset, be eager, engaged and not needing “the bells and whistles” of a large, corporate E&P to be productive and motivated.  The company hires experienced professionals and gives them the latitude to properly do their job.  Given the tight-knit and politics-free dynamics of the company, an ability to add to the company culture and engage with the staff will be just as important as technical capabilities.

 Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs the daily operation of Company’s corporate finance function, including treasury, budgeting, auditing, tax, accounting, capital purchasing, investor relations, risk management, long-range forecasting and insurance activities.
  • Provides counsel to the Company’s President, CEO and COO relating to financial considerations of acquisitions, investments and other business transactions.
  • Develops long-range strategies to establish and maintain the financial self-sufficiency of the Company.
  • Maintain the Company’s accounting systems and procedures, and ensures that they are up-to-date and in compliance with all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides advice and review for compliance with appropriate statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepares and issues monthly financial statements.
  • Manages and tracks the Company’s funds, assets and investments and periodically issues reports on its current as well as projected financial stability/condition.
  • Analyzes general economic, business, and financial conditions to assess their impact on the Company’s policies, operations and profitability.
  • Establishes and maintains contacts with auditors, actuaries, financial institutions, government agencies, joint venture partners and counterparts.
  • To the extent possible, minimize the Company’s tax liabilities.
  • Prepares a monthly written report to the Company’s board of directors on the financial standing and conditions of the Company.
  • Oversees all activities related to office management/administration including: contracts, leases and vendor agreements.
  • Has charge and responsibility for all funds and securities of the Company.
  • Highly knowledgeable and experienced in the application of GAAP.

Requirements

Viable candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of professional corporate finance and accounting experience, preferably with some experience working within a “Big 4” early in the career.

5+ years of experience working within the domestic upstream oil & gas industry, preferably working as an in-house finance / accounting professional within an E&P company.  Experience working within a small-company environment is helpful for the transition into this role.

Experience managing internal accounting processes and people in a fast-paced, goal-driven environment.

CPA preferred but not required.
