CSI Recruiting is working with a dynamic and growing independent E&P company based in the DFW (Dallas / Fort Worth) area in their need for a Vice President of Geoscience.  This role will be the most senior geology and geophysics resource in the company, and will report to the company’s President and CEO.

THIS IS A TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP ROLE – The position includes technical leadership, strategy, business development and project management, in addition to senior-level technical work in exploration, exploitation and development of oil & gas assets.  You’ll be expected to do hands-on geoscience work and candidates will be selected based on both their technical and managerial abilities.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Identify and develop internally generated oil & gas prospects with an emphasis on onshore oil projects.
  • Manage, lead and mentor a small  staff of experienced geologists, geophysicists, and Geotechnical / GIS personnel
  • Provide geoscience technical support for A&D project execution and business development efforts.
  • Generate geoscience presentation materials including maps, cross-sections, regional geology studies and other exhibits for pitch books, executive summaries and data room presentations.
  • Present results of geoscience analyses in pitch and data room settings.
  • Work directly at times with partners, reserve auditors, and bankers on highly confidential evaluations.
  • Proactively identify operational risks/control deficiencies in the business
  • Perform structural and conventional prospecting and also deliver ideas within the  unconventional arena.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater with emphasis in Geology required; MBA, MA or MS preferred.
  • 15+ years of upstream oil & gas geoscience experience working in-house at either large independent E&P companies or major oil & gas companies; Energy investment banking or A&D experience with active Exploration and Production company a plus.
  • Ideally will have a combination of U.S. onshore and International onshore experience.
  • Performs structural and conventional prospecting with adequate unconventional knowledge.
  • Proficiency with geoscience software such as PETRA, Geographix, SMT, etc.
  • Candidate must be commercially oriented and understand the fundamentals of cash flow, economics and rate of return, as well as the ability to assess technical risk qualitatively as well as quantitatively.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and requests.
  • Ability to take initiative and function independently, balanced with strong teaming skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills – must be able to present and defend geologic analyses to large groups.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain relationships at all levels of organization.
